Emmys Cite Oscar Notables

The nominations for the 52nd annual Emmys, announced in Los Angeles this morning, reveal what happens to onetime Oscar nominees and winners: they go into television. Academy Award honorees of the recent past -- Sally Field, Holly Hunter, Judy Davis and Gena Rowlands -- topped the Emmy category of best actress in a mini-series or TV movie in a field that also included Halle Berry, who got the nod for "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge." Field and Davis shared the bill -- and nominations -- for "A Cooler Climate," while Rowlands is competing over her role in "The Color of Love: Jacey's Story." Hunter was nominated for "Harlan County War." Otherwise, the Emmys, which will be presented on ABC on Sept. 10, show strong competition between cable and the networks, as well as the White House vs. the Mob -- in the form of NBC's "The West Wing" and HBO's "The Sopranos," both of which are nominated as best dramatic series, along with NBC's "ER" and "Law and Order" and ABC's "The Practice." "West Wing" and "Sopranos" each received an impressive 18 nominations.
