Caroline Schlossberg's Profile in Courage

Fresh from her speech at last week's Democratic Convention, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, along with fellow partygoers Spike Lee and husband and wife Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, delivered star power to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund's Martha's Vineyard fund-raiser yesterday. The event brought together nearly 200 leaders of the African-American community. Schlossberg told PEOPLE that she is pleased that Cape Cod Hospital, near the Kennedy family's compound in Hyannisport, Mass., had decided to name a pediatric wing after her late brother, John. "I think that's great," she said. As for her association with the Legal Fund, Schlossberg said that she joined its board at the request of its president, Elaine Jones, whom she got to know "when she was on the Profile in Courage Award committee at the Kennedy library, and no one had a better sense of what kind of courage we need today than Elaine."
