"The Sound of Music" star Julie Andrews, 64, has settled her malpractice lawsuit over a 1997 throat operation at New York's Mt. Sinai Hospital that she said had damaged her vocal chords and left her unable to sing professionally. In a statement released on Thursday, the Oscar winner (1964's "Mary Poppins") said, "I am glad to have settled this case in a favorable manner and am glad to close this chapter on an event which was unfortunate for all concerned." The multi-million-dollar suit was filed last year and terms of its settlement were not disclosed. Mt. Sinai officials had no comment for Reuters. The news comes just as Andrews's most popular movie, 1965's "Sound of Music," is being released on DVD and in limited theatrical engagements for a new sing-along version. Meanwhile, she will host a December PBS special, "Leading Ladies of Broadway" (which was filmed at Carnegie Hall last year), and will appear next year in the film "Princess Diaries."
