Smoldering "Gladiator" star Russell Crowe reportedly injured his shoulder Tuesday in Austin, Texas, while training for his new film, "Flora Plum," to be directed by Jodie Foster. The Hollywood Reporter says that the movie, which was to begin shooting in Orlando in two weeks, has been placed on hold, with doctors said to be advising the actor to undergo surgery for the injury later this month. The turn of events may jeopardize Crowe's appearance in the film, which could either be recast or postponed until he recovers, the trade paper reports. Crowe was in Austin recording with his band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts. "Flora Plum," a Depression-era love story, concerns a circus freak (Crowe) and a penniless waif (Claire Danes). Crowe, meanwhile, will next be seen in the already completed "Proof of Life," with Meg Ryan.
