New York: Bye, Bye Barbra!

07/21/1998 at 12:00 AM EDT

Brooklyn native Barbra Streisand is delivering a double-barreled goodbye to her hometown. Besides giving her final farewell performance -- her very last song was her trademark, "People" -- to a sold-out Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, the star, 58, is also parting with the last piece of property that she owns in New York. The Wall Street Journal reports that Streisand has put the 15-room Central Park West co-op that she's owned for nearly 40 years on the market. The 8,000-sq. ft. triplex penthouse contains five bedrooms and five bathrooms, says the Journal, and a 3,000-sq. ft. terrace with a sweeping view of Central Park, the Hudson River and the city itself. A real-estate broker handling the sale says that the star wants to downsize to a smaller house in a larger setting in California. Asking price for the New York digs: $9.5 million, not counting the monthly $7,900 maintenance fee that gets paid to the building.
