Olympics: Win Some, Lose Some

07/22/1998 at 12:00 AM EDT

Michael Johnson, 33, of the U.S. won the gold medal in the men's 400 meters, the first man to win that event in two consecutive Olympics. Australia's Cathy Freeman, 27, the Aboriginal runner who lit the Olympic torch, won the women's 400. Meanwhile, Romanian gymnast Andreea Raducan, 16, has been stripped of her gold medal after she tested positive for a banned stimulant commonly found in cold medications. In addition, C.J. Hunter, the 1999 shot-put world champ and husband of sprinter Marion Jones who allegedly tested positive for a banned steroid in July (he withdrew from the Olympics due to knee surgery), has reportedly hired Los Angeles attorney Johnnie Cochran to help clear his of the charge.
