TV star Rick Jason, who rose to fame in his role as Lt. Gil Hanley on the 60s ABC drama about World War II, "Combat!," shot and killed himself in his Southern California home on Monday, police told Reuters. The actor, 74, was depressed over personal matters, said authorities, who added that they did not know him to be suffering any physical ailments. He reportedly did not leave a suicide note. (Earlier this month, another actor, Richard Faransworth, 80, took his own life when he became despondent over his terminal cancer.) Only a week ago, Jason and his fellow "Combat!" stars appeared at a fan convention for the show in Las Vegas. His wife, Cindy, survives Jason, who was born the son of a New York stockbroker father and a wealthy mother.
