Election: Late Night Field Day
All right, so let's laugh at the Presidential standoff. From TV yesterday came comments from Jay Leno, who said he had a nightmare in which space aliens landed on earth and demanded that he take them to his leader. "And I didn't know what to do," he wailed. Said David Letterman "Okay, here's the deal. We have George W. Bush, who's not the President of the United States. We have Al Gore, not the President of the United States. What do you say we just leave it that way?" Noted Conan O'Brien, "It all boils down to how the Floridians voted, leaving George W. Bush to say, 'Please, let's not bring foreigner into this.' " (Similarly, Letterman said that Bush is "demanding a refill.") But it was Bill Maher who pretended to quote George W. Bush in the best remark, claiming that as the unresolved contest continued the candidate turned to his parents, George and Barbara Bush, and whined, "But you promised!"
