With an estimated personal fortune of $750 million, Sir Paul McCartney tops a list of the world's richest music stars that has been compiled by the British publication BusinessAge. The ex-Beatles and ex-Wings headliner owes his fortune to smart stock investments in the 1980s, huge royalty payments, ongoing album sales and substantial property holdings, says the magazine. The current No. 1 status of the new Beatles compilation, "1," stands to put another $15 million into McCartney's pocket. His nearest rival is No. 2-ranked Elton John ($250 million), who was followed by Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. They've accumulated $225 million and $200 million, respectively. Youngest rocker on the list is George Michael, 37, with $105 million (No. 14). Speaking of Elton, who's still involved in a lawsuit in which he's accusing his former accountants of mismanaging his funds, he's opening up his closets for a good cause. He'll sell some 20,000 items of clothing to raise money for AIDS research, say reports. The almost new threads, which include a $70,000 silver suit and wig that the Rocket Man wore to his 50th birthday bash three years ago, go on sale starting Wednesday in a special store on London's New Bond Street.
