Kirsty MacColl Death Query
The driver of a speedboat that police say accidentally ran into British singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl, 41, and killed her on Tuesday has been released on bail as authorities prepare to investigate the incident, justice officials in Mexico City have announced. The tragedy occurred off Mexico's Caribbean island of Cozumel, and her two teenage sons were present at the time, says Reuters. "A man called Jose Cenyam was detained, but as the case is being treated as negligent homicide he was released on bail yesterday," a spokesman for the attorney general's office in Quintana Roo told the news service on Thursday, the same day that the body of the pop star (who worked with such artists as Billy Bragg, Talking Heads and the Smiths) was scheduled to be returned to England. Police are seeking to discover whether or not MacColl was swimming in an area reserved for swimmers, as was stated in press reports, said the spokesman.
