A good news day for Whitney Houston: The Hawaii County prosecutor's office requested on Thursday that a judge put together a court-approved agreement that would allow for the dismissal of a marijuana-possession case against the pop diva, provided that she meets certain conditions, reports the Associated Press. On Nov. 2, Houston, through an intermediary, pleaded no contest in a Hawaiian courtroom to promoting a detrimental drug in the third degree. (The petty misdemeanor offense is punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.) The charge stemmed from an incident at the Big Island's Keahole-Kona International Airport on Jan. 11, 2000, when airport security and police discovered that Houston's handbag contained half an ounce of marijuana. At the November hearing, Houston was granted a deferred acceptance of no-contest plea, meaning the charge against her would be dismissed in three months if she paid $1,000 to the state and a $25 "criminal injury" fee, as well as a $3,000 donation to a group called Big Island Wave Riders Against Drugs, said the AP. She was also to submit a substance-abuse assessment to authorities, although as of Thursday's hearing this week, she had reportedly yet to comply.
