Sean "Puffy" Combs, 31, will testify this week at his trial in New York on charges of gun possession and bribing a witness, the rap mogul said in statement released Tuesday night. The statement added that Jennifer Lopez, his former girlfriend, would not testify. "As I have stated all along," the Combs statement said, "I look forward to taking the stand and telling the jury what my friends and family have known to be true all along, that the charges against me are absolutely false." He added, "Since I intend to testify on my own behalf, I feel it is no longer necessary for Jennifer to be involved in these proceedings." Lopez, Combs, his driver (Wardel Fenderson) and his bodyguard (Anthony Jones) were arrested on Dec. 27, 1999, after a shooting at Club New York in Times Square. Combs's protége, Jamal Barrow, is charged with attempted murder. Combs and Jones are charged with gun possession. Combs is also charged with allegedly trying to bribe his driver into claiming ownership for the gun found in the SUV. In her own statement, Lopez declared her belief in Combs's innocence. She added, "I have told Sean that if he and his lawyers change their minds and require me to testify, I will be there immediately to tell the truth . . . He as always has my love and full support."
