The defense portion of the trial of Sean "Puffy" Combs's protége Jamal "Shyne" Barrow began Friday, with a friend of Combs's personal assistant taking the stand, reports PEOPLE. Barrow is accused of firing a 9mm gun inside Club New York on Dec. 27, 1999, and is on trial for attempted murder. The witness, David Cubilette, a friend of Combs's personal assistant, Jason Delgado, told the court that he was standing by the bar when he heard a "loud argument." He said he then saw the back of a man holding his hands up, and Combs standing across from the man. Cubilette said the man had something in his hand, but he couldn't identify what it was. Then, he testified, "money went flying." Within 30 seconds, Cubilette said, he saw an arm with a gun go up in the air. He then heard a shot, and was pulled to the floor by the woman he was with. Then, he testified, he heard three more shots. But he didn't see who fired them. When he got up, Cubilette said he saw Barrow holding a gun -- and a big man next to Barrow pulling at his arm. Barrow, Cubilette said, was trying to get away. The defense portion of the trial resumes on Monday.
