Day Two of the defense portion of the trial of rap mogul Sean "Puffy" Combs got off to a late start in New York State Superior Court on Friday, given that a heavy snowstorm had hit the city the night before, reports PEOPLE. And with the entire Friday session itself kept short, only one witness was called to the stand: Christopher Chambers, 30, an auto mechanic from the Bronx, who testified that he was in Club New York on Dec. 27, 1999, the night that Combs and his entourage were there as gunfire broke out. (Three people were injured, and Combs, 31, his bodyguard, Anthony "Wolf" Jones, 34, and Jamal "Shyne" Barrow, 21, are on trial in connection with the shooting. Combs and Jones are charged with gun possession. Barrow is charged with attempted mu rder. Combs is also charged with bribery for allegedly offering his driver a $50,000 bribe to claim ownership of a pistol police found in Combs's Lincoln Navigator.) Chambers testified that Combs did not have a gun that night at Club New York and specified that he saw Combs's left hand go up when the gunfire was heard -- and that the hand was empty. (Some previous witnesses had testified that Combs had a gun in his left hand.) During cross-examination, the prosecution did its best to discredit Chambers and his recollections of that night at Club New York. During courtroom breaks, Combs, who was wearing a three-piece blue pinstriped suit (with baggy trousers), signed autographs for fans, most of whom were young.
