'Friends" star Matthew Perry, 31, has checked into an undisclosed rehabilitation facility for an unspecified illness on the advice of his doctors, his spokeswoman said on Monday. "Matthew has every intention of completing his treatment so that he can continue his dream of entertaining people and making them laugh," publicist Lisa Kasteler said in a statement. "He appreciates everyone's concern and thanks them for respecting his privacy." Production on Perry's current film, "Servicing Sara" with Elizabeth Hurley, will continue in Dallas with the crew shooting around the actor, the publicist added. Within the past year, Perry's life has been fraught with the type of situations more typically associated with Chandler Bing, his endearingly anxious character on the top-rated NBC sitcom. Last May 20, Perry totaled his Porsche when he smacked into the front porch of a vacant house in Hollywood, saying afterward that he was swerving to avoid hitting another car. Police said no alcohol or drugs were involved. The accident occurred on the same day that Perry concluded a two-week stay at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. "I went to the hospital to be treated for a serious stomach ailment," Perry told PEOPLE on May 22. Concern about Perry's condition at the time was fueled by his past dependency on Vicodin, which the actor began taking following wisdom-tooth problems and injuries from a Jet Ski accident, reported PEOPLE. In 1997, Perry checked himself into a drug rehab center to overcome his addiction, later saying, "I don't think there's anything in the world that I can't face, having faced that."
