In a documentary called "Raw Spice" that was aired on British TV Wednesday, Michelle Stephenson, who left the Spice Girls in 1994, before they went on to become the biggest-selling girl group in the world, said she had no regrets about exiting, "though obviously the money would be nice." (Stephenson's spot was filled by Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton.) "I was the one at university, the intelligent one as it were. They all thought I was 'Smart Spice,' " Stephenson said for the camera -- though some of her remarks were contradicted by others and, in one case, by herself. "I was not happy in the band," Stephenson said on the program. "It was not the kind of music I wanted to be doing. It was very, very pop." Yet in the same documentary, former Spice manager Chris Herbert disclosed that Stephenson did not fit in with others in the band and was asked to leave. On another program that also aired on Wednesday, Stephenson said that she took her leave when her mother became ill. "Raw Spice" focused on the Spice Girls -- besides Bunton, there were Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Melanie Brown (Scary) and Victoria Beckham (Posh) -- in their days before fame, fortune and fans.
