Wilson's Good Vibrations
Among the highlights at Thursday's all-star tribute to Beach Boy Brian Wilson, reports PEOPLE, a (what else?) hip-swiveling Ricky Martin got the night underway performing "California Girls" and "Help Me Rhonda." Paul Simon followed with a staid, virtually unrecognizable version of "Little Surfer Girl," the first song Wilson ever wrote. "Thank you, Brian Wilson," said Simon, wearing a T-shirt, baseball cap and khakis. "He has made a lot of people happy for a long time with his music." The event drew such bright lights as Jimmy Fallon, Cameron Crowe, Matthew Modine and Paul Shaffer, and also featured performances by Carly Simon, Darius Rucker, Elton John, Billy Joel, and the Go-Gos. But it was the fresh-faced, Israeli-born duo of Evan and Jaron that got the audience rockin' with a rendition of "I Get Around." Wearing matching striped blue and white shirts, white pants and navy canvas shoes, the twins looked as if they'd taken dressing tips from the Beach Boys of yesteryear. "There are two things that any musician can't deny," Jaron later admitted in the pressroom. "The Beach Boys influenced their music and that they got involved in music to pick up chicks." When Wilson, 58, graced the stage, he thanked everyone for coming. "Glad all of you drove down here," he said. "I know it was hard to find a parking space."
