Lennon Treasures on Block
The late John Lennon's piano from his New York apartment and his 1970 white stretch limo are on the block in an Internet auction that is said to be re-igniting Beatlemania around the world, reports Reuters. The piano is expected to fetch $1.25 million, and the car -- a Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman limo that Lennon reputedly bought to commemorate the kick-off of his solo career with Yoko Ono -- $575,000. (Lennon did not own the car at the time of his 1980 death. He had sold it to fellow Beatle George Harrison, who, in turn, sold it to May Wilson of the Supremes.) Auction specialist Ted Owen and Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood are conducting the sale, which is scheduled to wrap on Tuesday at their Web site, fleetwoodowen.com. "It is like a poker game that is not over until the final card is played and the Fat Lady sings," said Owen of the sale.
