Lennon Items Fall Short
The piano from John Lennon's New York apartment and the 1970 white stretch Mercedes limo once owned by the late Beatle failed to meet their reserve prices at a London auction Tuesday, reports the Associated Press. It now remains to be seen whether or not the owners of the items accept the offers, say auctioneers Fleetwood Owen, who conducted the sale at London's Hard Rock Cafe. The Mercedes Benz 600 Pullman garnered a telephone bid of $270,000 ($14,000 short of its reserve price), while the Steinway drew a top bid of $1.1 million ($360,000 short of its anticipated bid) during a sale at London's Hard Rock Cafe. Last year, singer George Michael paid $2.1 million for the piano Lennon used to compose the song "Imagine." He has said he plans to give it to Liverpool's Beatles museum.
