Drescher's $1 Million Story
Fran Drescher, 43, the ex-star of "The Nanny" and the first cover girl on the new Rosie magazine, has sold her memoir of her recent, successful battle with uterine cancer to Warner Books for $1 million, reports Variety. (Warner Books, like PEOPLE, is part of AOL Time Warner.) The book was the subject of an intense bidding auction, reports the trade paper. Drescher's earlier book, the 1996 "Enter Whining," was a New York Times bestseller. That book took its title from Drescher's distinctly nasal voice and followed the rise of Drescher's career. No date for the publication of this new memoir has been reported. In an interview in the debut issue of Rosie magazine, Drescher says that before her cancer was properly diagnosed last year, "It was like a Greek tragedy, because no one could find out what was wrong with me. I completely slipped through the cracks . . . because they don't test women my age for uterine cancer."
