Supermodel Niki Taylor's aunt, Mary Eaton, said this weekend that relatives are encouraged by Taylor's rapid recuperation from a near-fatal car crash on April 29. "I talked to my sister (Barbara, Niki's mother) last night and she said Niki's doing great," Eaton, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution for Saturday's editions. Taylor, 26, remains on a respirator and is unable to speak, "but she's able to point to a sign board to communicate with the family," said her aunt. "She told them she wants to go home." A spokeswoman for Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital said that Taylor remains in critical but stable condition, and may remain in intensive care several more weeks. Taylor sustained liver and other injuries when the driver of the car she was riding in lost control of the vehicle when he was distracted by a ringing cell phone.
