Rodman's B'day Rocks

03/25/1998 at 12:00 AM EST

Police in Newport Beach, Calif., shut down a 40th birthday bash at the home of former basketball bad boy Dennis Rodman over the weekend for what authorities said was an illegal helicopter landing and a live concert by two rock bands. About 300 people were on hand, with most of the guests spilling onto the public beach outside Rodman's home. By late afternoon, reports the Associated Press, about 30 police officers -- some in riot gear - showed up as Rodman's lawyers negotiated with the district attorney's office and Rodman argued with police. Police spokesman Mike McDermott said Rodman eventually agreed to move the bash to his nearby restaurant. No arrests were made.
