Alanis to the Rescue

Alanis Morissette is an official Broadway angel (stage slang for investor). The "You Oughta Know" singer-songwriter, 26, has coughed up $150,000 to help save the struggling $6.5 million musical "Jane Eyre," based on the Charlotte Bronte novel. Morissette's investment will keep the show (which was scheduled to close this weekend) running for another week, at least. "She is a good friend of Paul Gordon, the composer, and also a huge fan of the show," said show spokesman Bob Fennell. In other Broadway news, the $11 million "Seussical the Musical" has posted its closing notice, despite having employed a string of casting gimmicks that included Rosie O'Donnell's playing the Cat in the Hat. The final performance is Sunday.
