Sir Dirk Bogarde, British matinee idol who won international acclaim for his role in "Death in Venice" and other films, of a heart attack, in his London home Saturday. He was 78. Bogarde was also a prolific best-selling writer who authored seven volumes of memoirs and seven novels.
