Master lox slicer Sam Cohen, around 86, a Holocaust survivor who for years held the No. 1 slot at New York's gourmet grocery store Zabar's, Oct. 9, of lymphoma. Cohen came to the U.S. as an orphaned child (after losing his eight brothers and sisters to Nazi concentration camps) and lived frugally enough to put his daughter through dental school and his son through medical school.
