Pulitzer Prize-winning historian C. Vann Woodward, 91, whose work shaped America's understanding of the South and its attitudes about race, Friday, in Hartford, Conn. . . . Grover Washington Jr., 56, the jazz saxophonist who was among the first young musicians to burst onto the jazz-funk scene, Friday in New York. Calling Washington "as versatile as any jazz musician in America," President Clinton said, "I will miss both the man and his music."
