An anonymous buyer, said to be a "well-known figure outside the world of sports," has paid a record-setting $551,844 for the basketball Wilt Chamberlain used to score a record 100 points in 1962, said Leland's Auction House. Kerry Ryman, now 52, who put the ball up for sale, first latched onto the ball 38 years ago in Hershey, Pa., after he congratulated Wilt the Stilt, who really was a good sport: he told a security guard to let Ryman, then a kid, keep it.
