Golf Course Godfather Dies

Robert Trent Jones, 93, known as the "father of modern golf course architecture," died in Florida on Wednesday, on the eve of the current U.S. Open. The prolific Jones was responsible for about 310 courses in 45 states and 29 foreign countries or islands, and redesigned about 150 other courses, including such lavish venues as the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.; the Oakland Hills Country Club in Birmingham, Mich.; and the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
