11/19/1997 at 12:00 AM EST

Gregory Sweeney, a New York Mets fan, was arrested on Sunday after he tossed back a ball that had been thrown to him from the Shea Stadium field by controversial Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker. Rocker, who was being loudly booed by the crowds at the time, purportedly tossed the ball to Sweeney, 25, as an olive branch. When Sweeney tossed it back, police booked him on charges of reckless endangerment.
