Inventor Edward Craven Walker, 82, who is responsible for the lava lamp (which he launched in 1963), died of cancer in London last Tuesday, his family has just revealed. Walker's brainchild was based on a "blob light" -- a mix of oil and water warmed by a light bulb. "If you buy my lamp, you won't need drugs," he liked to say. Walker was also an avid nudist.
