Oscar Winner Schell Hospitalized
Academy Award winner Maximilian Schell, 69, was flown to a hospital in Germany after falling ill with acute inflammation of the pancreas during a visit to a film festival in Riga, Latvia, doctors told the Associated Press yesterday. The Austrian-born actor, who won a supporting actor Oscar for his role as the defense attorney in 1961's "Judgment at Nuremberg," had complained of stomach pains on Friday, before he was to accept an award. Schell is a diabetic, which doctors believe contributed to the condition, which is being called serious but not life-threatening.
