Sammy Davis Jr.'s Mother Dies
Tap dancer Elvera Sanchez Davis, 95, the mother of Sammy Davis Jr., died Saturday in New York. She had begun dancing at the age of 16, when she was known as Baby Sanchez. She continued her career, and when she and Sammy Davis Sr. separated, the father brought up Sammy Jr. (Their celebrated son died in 1990, at the age of 64.)
