Canada's Trudeau Dies
Former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, 80, died of prostate cancer in Montreal on Thursday. During his 16 years in power (1968-1984, interrupted by a nine-month gap in 1979-80), he was likened to America's John Kennedy in terms of his liberal leanings as well as for his charisma and sex appeal. Among the women the Jesuit-educated Trudeau dated were Barbra Streisand, Margot Kidder and current "Sex and the City" sexpot Kim Cattrall. At the age of 51, in 1971, he married Margaret Sinclair, a rock photographer who was 29 years his junior. They divorced in 1977, and Margaret Trudeau became something of a party fixture at New York's Studio 54. Pierre Trudeau retired from public life in 1984.
