Hollywood actress Jean Peters, 73, who lent her cool beauty to such '50s 20th Century Fox movies as "Three Coins in the Fountain," died of leukemia on Oct. 13. Her death was announced only this weekend. Peters, who hailed from the Midwest, was something of a recluse throughout her career. Besides eschewing movie soirees and cliques, she pretty much kept to herself. Of her three husbands, her best-known one (from 1957 until 1971) was the billionaire Howard Hughes, himself one of the great recluses of all time. Peters's final professional appearance was on "Murder, She Wrote."
