Cash: Doctors Wrong

10/21/1997 at 12:00 AM EDT

Country legend Johnny Cash, 68, who has been in ill heath for years, says he was misdiagnosed as having the neurological disorder known as Shy-Drager Syndrome. "My doctor told me in November that if I'd had it, I'd be dead by now," Cash told the Tennessean newspaper. The eight-time Grammy winner also said that physicians have declared that he is getting better, therefore ruling out not only Shy-Drager but Parkinson's disease, as well.
