O'Connor on the Mend
"All in the Family" and "In the Heat of the Night" star Carroll O'Connor, 76, was released from the UCLA Medical Center on Thursday, following surgery to improve circulation in his lower left leg. As a result, say doctors, he lost part of his toe, a situation that arose because of his diabetes. "Mr. O'Connor is in good condition and resting very comfortably," Dr. Peter Guzy, the star's personal physician, said in a statement. In June of 1998, O'Connor underwent surgery to remove an arterial blockage.
