"Midnight Cowboy" Oscar-winning director John Schlesinger, 74, suffered a stroke last Saturday and is recuperating at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Springs, Calif., reports Variety. Schlesinger, who underwent quadruple bypass surgery last year, is said to be in the intensive care unit and will undergo extensive rehab in order to regain full speech and other faculties. Schlesinger and his movies -- which include "Billy Liar," "Darling," "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Marathon Man" -- were scheduled to be honored at this month's Palm Springs Film Festival.
