NEIL SEDAKA, 61, was released from Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee on Tuesday after treatment for undisclosed medical problems, reports the Associated Press. The singer ("Breaking Up Is Hard to Do") checked in over the weekend after reportedly canceling a performance with the Knoxville Symphony Pops Orchestra . . . Oscar-winning director JOHN SCHLESINGER ("Midnight Cowboy," and Madonna's last movie, "The Next Best Thing"), 74, is said to have been moved out of intensive care at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., where he has been since reportedly suffering a stroke on Dec. 30. He is listed in stable condition, though it is not known how long he will remain in recovery, said a hospital spokesperson.
