Aloha to 'Baywatch Hawaii'
After two years on the air, the sun-and-fun buff lifeguard fest will close its TV beaches, reports the Associated Press. The show's last episode will air the week of May 21, announced "Baywatch Hawaii" publicist Kristin McEntee. "It's been a great run," she said on Wednesday. "It lasted longer than we thought. It's sad." Ever since leaving Los Angeles, where it filmed for nine years, to film in tropical Hawaii, the show suffered from poor ratings. (At that time, longtime star David Hasselhoff also reduced his role to occasional appearances.) The biggest loss will be for the Hawaiian economy, which reportedly benefited from the exposure and the dollars brought in from the show's production.
