'Lucy' Scribe Dies

09/18/1997 at 12:00 AM EDT

One of Lucille Ball's favorite writers, the Emmy-winning Robert Weiskopf, 87, died of congestive heart failure on Feb. 20. Besides numerous episodes of "I Love Lucy," which he wrote with collaborator Robert Schiller, Weiskopf's TV credits include episodes of "Make Room for Daddy" for star Danny Thomas and "Our Miss Brooks" for Eve Arden (both shows were produced by Desilu, the studio owned by Ball and husband Desi Arnaz). Among some classic Weiskopf episodes were "Lucy's Italian Movie" (in which the redhead memorably ended up in a wine vat) and "Lucy Visits Grauman's" (in which Lucy and Ethel discover that the cement slab with John Wayne's footprints is loose).
