'Moneyline' Host Quits

09/12/1997 at 12:00 AM EDT

Longtime CNN "Moneyline" host Stuart Varney has resigned from the network, CNN announced Wednesday. (CNN, like PEOPLE, is owned by AOL Time Warner.) According to reports, part of Varney's decision to quit had to do with anger over CNN founder Ted Turner's reference to CNN employees who observed Ash Wednesday as "Jesus freaks." Turner has since publicly apologized for his comment. So far, no replacement has been named for the nightly business show, which is co-anchored by Willow Bay.
