New Face for '60 Minutes'

Wednesday September 10, 1997 12:00 AM EDT

Sunday may be Oscar night, with the Academy Awards to be broadcast on ABC, but it's also a big night on CBS, where a new face will premiere on top-rated "60 Minutes." The long-running newsmagazine show will welcome Carol Marin, its first new correspondent in five years. Marin is perhaps best known as the high-minded Chicago news anchor who, in 1997, quit her job after her station hired contentious talk show host Jerry Springer. On "60 Minutes," Marin will join Bob Simon and Christiane Amanpour as a contributing correspondent, according to a CBS press release. All three are said to be in the running to replace original "60 Minutes" reporter Mike Wallace, 82, when he retires from the show, whenever that might be.
