Veteran journalist and CNN host Rowland Evans, 79, died Friday at Georgetown University Hospital after a long battle with cancer, the network announced this weekend. Evans joined CNN in 1980 as co-host with Robert Novak of the program "Evans & Novak." The two originally teamed up in May 1963 to write Inside Report, a syndicated political column. Evans retired from the column on May 15, 1993. Before joining Novak, Evans covered Congress and national politics for the New York Herald-Tribune and served in the Marines during World War II.
