Twain: Up in Smoke

08/25/1997 at 12:00 AM EDT

A high school in Concord, N.H. may ban a Mark Twain impersonator from performing at the school because he refuses to do so without the author's trademark stogie. The Associated Press reports that Laconia High School officials are considering calling off an October performance by Mike Randall, 47, if he insists on smoking. Randall says there is little point in doing the show without the cigar. "You can't rewrite history. The man smoked," said Randall, who has been doing Twain performances in schools for about 30 years.
