This year, for PEOPLE's second issue celebrating eligible bachelors, the magazine polled 47,000 readers on PEOPLE.com to determine what qualities they want in a mate. Then the mag dispatched correspondents across the country, who had no trouble coming up with 50 spectacular singles, ranging from the dog-tagged dreamboats of "Pearl Harbor" -- Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett -- to a killer collection of everyday guys including a cake maker, a dinosaur hunter and a rocket scientist. Recognizable names? Tiger Woods, Matt Damon, Benicio Del Toro. The one with the most unusual profession? Sheep farmer John O'Brien. (Hey, he went to Harvard.) The one who spends the most time in the dark? Movie critic Richard Roeper. There are some royal bachelors, too, including one with a killer of a name: Baron Clement von Franckenstein. The top 50 of 2001 are also in for quite a trip if last year's bachelors are anything to go by. Of the 2000 crop, two have married, and six more are engaged (including actors Ed Burns to model Christy Turlington, and Freddie Prinze Jr. to "Scooby-Doo" costar Sarah Michelle Gellar). Which means that the rest of last year's guys are still up for grabs. Go to it, gang.
