Love's Labor Lost
Grunge queen Courtney Love, 35, threw some noses out of joint at a New York benefit Monday for the theatrical troupe the New Group, reports the L.A. Times. She was said to have sung some pop standards decidedly off key. "She was appalling," one witness was quoted as saying, "screaming at the audience, stumbling around, and her act was a mess -- worse than her language." New Group artistic director Scott Elliott defended Love's gig, calling it "irreverent but amazing. There's no more disciplined performer than Courtney Love." Not that the star herself necessarily agreed. Asked whether or not she wants to appear in a Broadway show, Love revealed that she had considered doing playwright David Mamet's "Boston Marriage," "but forget it," said the notoriously late star, blaming "the whole thing of getting there on time."
