A 'Fast and Furious' Box Office

The thriller "The Fast and the Furious" raced past the competition over the weekend to become the new No. 1 box office hit. It left No. 2, "Dr. Dolittle 2," Eddie Murphy's second go-round as the veterinarian who can talk to the animals, in the dust, though that gentle children's comedy still fared well. It just didn't fare as well as the opening weekend of Murphy's original "Dr. Dolittle." Last weekend's top film, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," starring Angelina Jolie, finished third -- though that one experienced a steep 58% in business from its first weekend. And "Pearl Harbor"? Still around, but not the hit it was anticipated to be. Disney's other big summer movie, the animated feature "Atlantis," isn't setting the world on fire, either. The weekend's Top 10: 1. "The Fast and the Furious," $41.6 million 2. "Dr. Dolittle 2," $26.7 million 3. "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," $20.2 million 4. "Atlantis: The Lost Empire," $13.2 million 5. "Shrek," $11 million 6. "Swordfish," $7.7 million 7. "Pearl Harbor," $7 million 8. "Moulin Rouge," $3.8 million 9. "Evolution," $3.6 million. 10. "The Animal" $3 million
