Clinton, Carey Go to Head of Class
A diva named Mariah and an ex-President named Bill did a good deed Tuesday. They visited a grade school to celebrate the return of music classes.

Two music stars -- singer Mariah Carey, 32, and saxophone player Bill Clinton, 54 -- paid a visit to the Louise Spencer Elementary School in Newark, N.J., on Tuesday to celebrate the return of instrumental music classes to the curriculum. (All right, in addition to tooting his own horn, Clinton was also the former President of the United States.) VH1, through its Save The Music Foundation, and Cablevision also donated about 750 musical instruments to the school system to mark the occasion, reports the Associated Press. Female acoustic soul singer India.Arie sang a short a cappella song while several hundred smiling students cheered. Carey, claiming fatigue, begged off performing, and Clinton passed up the opportunity to borrow a saxophone from one of the kids. But he did speak. "A few years from now," Clinton told the kids, "somebody's going to be on a stage like this doing what Mariah and India did today. It might as well be you."
