HOSPITALIZED: Bob Dole, 77, the former U.S. senator and 1996 Republican presidential candidate as well as Viagra pitchman, underwent elective surgery to repair an abdominal aneurysm (a weakening of the artery wall) on Wednesday, said the Cleveland Clinic. "He's going fine," said a spokeswoman for the hospital. His Washington law firm expects him back to work next Monday . . . DIED: French-born actress Corinne Calvet, 75, who starred with James Cagney, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, among others, in movies of the '50s, passed away on Saturday at UCLA Medical Center after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage . . . INSURED: "Riverdance" creator Michael Flatley, 42, has insured his legs for $50 million, reports the Associated Press. "Everybody was afraid that if I stopped dancing, the tour wouldn't go on, and if the tour doesn't go on a lot of people would be out of work, and I would stand to lose a great deal of money myself," he said while on tour for his latest show, called "Feet of Flames." Talk about a hot foot.
