Looks like it may be curtains for "Jackass." Johnny Knoxville, the star of MTV's controversial stunt show told his hometown paper, the Knoxville News-Sentinel, that he's leaving the series to expand his career to the big screen. But not if MTV has any say in the matter. The cable network says it's still in discussions about continuing the show, which was co-created by Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze. Regardless, Knoxville, 30, is going about his business, and is slated to play a two-headed monster in next summer's "Men In Black 2." But it's no wonder MTV is skeptical about letting "Jackass" fall by the wayside -- the series is doing wonders for its ratings. For the week ended Aug. 12, the show was MTV's highest rated and tied for eighth-highest rated on basic cable. But there are some people who won't miss the show at all. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, among others, has objected to several of Knoxville's more outrageous spoofs such as covering himself in raw steaks and lighting himself on fire atop a grill - a stunt that inspired a viewer to do the same (he ended up with second- and third-degree burns.) Regardless of what happens, fans can count on ample repeats, and, Knoxville says "Jackass" specials. "We told (MTV) we would do specials down the road," Knoxville, told the News-Sentinel. "But this is enough. We have done enough."
